Latest Coronavirus project, Chainsaw Cedar Chair

Latest Coronavirus project, Chainsaw Cedar Chair - 04/01/20 09:36 PM

I made a bit of noise on my street last Sunday. My neighbors never know what to think of me. The Red Cedar stump is from a tree cut down off a lot across the street from me before they built a new house there. Many grown kids of all my neighbors had played on that tree at some time. Ordered a wood blade for my angle grinder to finish it out at a later date. I cut some Vs out of the legs so that it can get air so less surface trap water to rot out.

Thanks, I have one, but have another plan. Angle grinder carving disk to finish roughing it out and probably take the bark off. Then a shaping disc to smooth it out. Then flap discs to rough sand the areas that contact skin. I'll need to fill the natural cracks with something, then seal the whole thing. I kept the stump wet as I could for more than three months, then let it continue to season several more so it would not develop any bad cracks. Now that I cut it, I need to keep wetting it to season again before I finish it out. I would have liked to leave the bark on, but it's already peeling off. I will leave it fairly rustic to incorporate it next to our "cowboy cauldron" fire pit. I have a log and two more stumps from the same tree I want to cut into a bench next.

BTW, cutting this was great therapy. I was like Edward Sissorhands with wood and sawdust flying everywhere. All my neighbors where either outside staring at me or watching me through their windows. The entire street smelled like cedar.

Before I cut it, it was too heavy for my dolly and I could not move it more than a few feet by myself. Another reason I cut the Vs out of the base was to reduce weight. I can move it by myself now. But it is still very heavy.

The king of the neighborhood should earn his right to sit in that throne.

Geez, you've got a lot of patience. Came out good. Reminiscent of a Cedar Chopper Clan Throne.

Very cool and nice work.

Had a neighbor that did furniture like that from oak. From a tree on the parents place he did a bench for him and one for the parents.
