Memorial Day. May We Never Forget - 05/21/09 05:02 PM

Wanted to say to all my Fellow Veterans on here that I hope they have a great Memorial Day and that all of us never forget what this Day is all about. I want to invite anyone who may want to come to our Memorial Day Service here in Paducah come Monday. We start out at 8:30 am at the court house square with coffee and doughnuts, then we will have the Memorial Day Program which will consist of YOURS TRULY doing the opening and closing Prayer. Also the raising of the flag, a little Singing and also roll call for the last years Veterans from Cottle County who have passed. I am posting a couple of pics of what we do here in Cottle County. Every year before Memorial Day we hammer crosses into the Court House Lawn of all of the deceased Veterans from Cottle County. This year we hammered in 845 crosses. Here is two of my Kiddos next to the Cross of their Grandfather (my Wifes Dad).

Here is what it looks like when we are done:

Gordon, Your two right there are beautiful inside and out. Great to pass down this sentiment and VERY thankful for what so many have sacrificed for and done so, went when they were called to defend us under any circumstance even regardless of who we are and what we believe individually....that to me is the epitome of "selflessness"

Like you, Frank and I both are from long generational military families where both our father's served, my first Memorial Day service the year where my dad was laid to rest 9 years ago at the SWVMC was so impactful and sobering, I feel that everyone should go to a service at least one time in their life to get more of an appreciation to what those have done for us that are there to be honored. Bringing it to the public in the fashion you have is the way to do it.

Thank you for continuing your service to us.
Have a Blessed Memorial Day

Frank and Shell

Just Like Christmas, July 4th, Thanksgiving, Easter & Veterans Day...

Reason for the Season, Not just a day off or what gifts you get...

We are able to celebrate here because of the sacrifices made.

Paducha is a great little town. Stayed at the hunters lodge on a recent turkey hunt. Everyone we met were great. Not much shopping but thats how they like it I guess.

This morning memorial day was on the Dutch television. Also the roling thunder ride in DC.
When I was a kid my dad took me to Normandie (D-day) and showed me the endless hills with white crosses.
Untill today I am verry thankfull for all those soldiers who fight the nazi s and released Europe.
For all the veterans and soldiers out there a verry BIG respect from me!

I posted this on the off topic but figured I would put it here since it is about the day.

Fishing on Memorial Day

Corks in the water and I am watching it float
Relaxed and lazily sitting here in the boat
My lines in the water and the hook it is baited
All week long, this is the day for which I have waited
The weather is great, the water as smooth as glass
On this great day, the fishing is first class
I think of my Grandfather’s stories of times past
As I reel in my line to change the bait and make another cast
The times of the Great War and the friends that he had lost
Many Men’s lives is what that War had cost
World War II is the war that I am referring to
The big War remembered most by me and by you
Then I think of my Dad and his stories of his times he had
He was in the Military during Vietnam and times were bad
He volunteered to go but North Dakota is where he was sent
A place called Grand Forks is where he went
He was upset and wished to go fight while there all of the days
But we all know, the Lord works in mysterious ways
My cork is moving, I reel my slack in with ease
The weather is great and now there is a slight breeze
My mind wonders to the time that my Brothers and I served as well
The first time our Country fought Iraq, the place we all call hell
We were ready to go and for our Country is for who we would fight
Our ready bags were packed and ready to go whether it be day or night
That War was finally over and none of us were sent
But if called, without hesitation, we all would have went
Here alone in my boat, I bow my head and I begin to pray
Thank you Lord for the Soldiers who fought for my freedom to go fishing on this Memorial Day
