Taxi Turkeys

Taxi Turkeys - 07/09/19 01:06 AM

Only started hunting Eastern gobblers last fall. These are my first two turkeys ever. The hen taken last fall on a walk and stalk. The tom taken this spring calling in the ghillie suit parked at the base of a big old maple tree. Both taken off the same property so they may have actually known each other.

I have a problem shooting hens, just think of all the future offspring you are killing! Just for a "display"!

I guess he doesn't have the same problem....neither do I....

I know places with hundreds of birds in a single flock….

That’s a really nice display and I remember the write up from this spring.

Well I don’t think she was able to reproduce all by herself so by using your logic the Tom shouldn’t have been taken either.

I don't have a problem with it. I've seen hundreds in the same wheat field.

very nice! Are you going to leave it there or put it up somewhere. Does it mount up somewhere-Seems like it takes a lot or real estate to sit flat?

Guess I'm the only hunter with a problem shooting hen turkeys, if my circle of friends and hunting buddies found out I shot a hen on purpose would ostracise me from the groups!!! ANYWAY, thankfully its illegal to harvest a hen in oklahoma!!!
I'm hearing a lot pretty lame reasons to shoot one.

I have a picture from llano county where I had over 100 hens in a single picture I took. Lotta places aren’t hurting for hens.

We have more turkeys than we know what to do with. Farmers around here can actually get cull permits to kill a whack of them if they can show significant crop damage. Stalking in on a wily hen in the fall that can't be called in is far more challenging than hunting Toms in breeding season.
