CRAZY GOOD DAY OF FISHING!!! A FIRST EVER FOR ME! - 06/09/19 01:00 AM
Today was a day dreams are made of! I got Dad to tag along with me today and on the way to the lake before day break I told him conditions were just to perfect for a good day. If you have followed my pic threads over the last few weeks you know that fishing has been incredible but I warned him it might not happen today because the "perfect days" are usually the days where you fail horribly!
Well we got the boat in the water at 6am and hit one of the places I had been catching them pretty good and caught some small ones to start off but keepers were few and far between. We moved off a little deeper and caught some more but still were not really on them like we should be. We made the decision to move shallow which goes against everything we know about summer time Crappie but it paid off BIG TIME!! Turns out they were not only up shallow but of all things they were feeding on Crawfish and when we figured that out it was some of the most insane Crappie action I have ever seen! I wont say what we were catching them on but BIG BAITS were the name of the game today. Once we would wear out one spot we would run the same pattern some place else with the same insane results.
At one point I was running to another spot and came up on some surfacing Sandies. I actually ran right through them and somehow it didn't mess up the school. I shut the boat down and we proceeded to whack on the Sandies for awhile and had them all to ourselves. After doing that for awhile we decided to go finish out our Crappie limits.
The shallow Crawfish pattern held up all day long and we ended up with a easy 2 man limit. I fish by myself most of the time so this was the first time in my life that I can remember that I was part of a 2 man limit of Crappie. We also ended up culling many times throwing smaller fish back for bigger ones. That became too much work so we just fished for fun the rest of the day. We ended up catching close to around 200 Crappie. That number doesn't even include all the Sandbass, Catfish, and Drum we caught. It was CRAZY!!!
Anyway we got to break the fish clicker in and as you can see we stopped at 50 keepers plus a few Sandies that were hooked deep so kept a few of them too. Wish we would have got the other clicker going to keep track of the total caught.
I think I am done keeping them now. Whoever is with me can have what ever we catch now.
