Net gun work

Net gun work - 01/30/19 03:54 PM

I was able to shoot a few long distance photos of a helicopter and a net gunner at work. The pilot had some serious skills to push the deer out into an opening that would allow the net gunner to hit the target animal in a very small opening at times. The deer not that easy to follow or push where you want them to go. This was all legal and done with state permits.
You could tell when they spotted what they were after by the position the pilot set the helicopter. This series of photos shows the pilot spotting a deer then maneuvering the deer and himself into position for a shot. In last photo you can see the shot and net in the air.

This series you can see it is a bit more open terrain the pilot was able to get the deer into. You can see the gunsmoke after the shot and see a little of the net and flagging on it. Part of the ground crew is there in a hurry to hold the deer down, tie it and put a mask over the eyes.

In this series if you look closely you can see a doe head running in the frame then the shot sequence of the net in flight.

I have video of that same heli and their ground crews when we triple TTT'd 20 does off that ranch a few years ago. Not a cheap endeavor. And the guys on the mules and four wheelers. WOW! is all I can say. Some of the stuff those guys were driving through had to leave a mark.

Dang, that must be tough trying to net a deer in brush like that.

Nice photos! Those pilots/netters are NUTS! This thread made me look up some videos, where I found this one. This pilot often swings around (just above the tree tops) and flies backwards to get the netter on the right side. Fouzman is right - those ground guys are just as crazy. It looks like one of these guys rides up and over a bush...
