That’s a pretty nifty talent you’ve got there. I’ve always wanted to give it a go.

Very nice. When I hit two rocks together all I get is gravel.

Awesome work man. Very impressive. I did try my hand once with no training. Started with a piece of glass and an antler tip. Got the hang of making flakes. Tried to work with flint kept breaking my arrow heads before complete. I would have starved to death if I were an Indian.

I had buddy who's grandpa would whittle monkeys out of peach seeds. He asked him how he did it one time and he said, "Cut out all the parts that don't look like a monkey".

That's pretty dang neat! Remember Buddy? Primitive Knapper or something like that was his handle on here. He was good too. I went to his house and bought some ammo from him and he showed me his work. I was impressed.

How many hours did that take you?

Just making a thin biface so it only took about 30 minutes. When your doing nothing but reduction percussion work it goes pretty fast. What I didn't mention was when doing this I concentrate on taking off large usable flakes to be used for other tool and points. I'll get almost 30 points and another fairs size blade out of that piece. I saved everything from that piece and will eventually take a photo of all the tools made from it. Depending on the breakage ratio I should get close to 25 points, the other blade is already completed.

You definitely have some skills. A word of caution to those who try this, make sure you use breathing protection. Breathing silica dust will shorten your life.

Re: Banging rocks. - 11/11/18 01:10 AM

This is where I'm at so far, pretty much got all the bigger pieces I could out of that stone. Now I'll concentrate on smaller points, hoping I can get at least 25 total pieces including the bigger points and blades. The big Caddo blade is 7-3/4" x 3". The origional stone I started with was just under 8-1/2".
