Salmon Trip - Labor day weekend

Salmon Trip - Labor day weekend - 10/09/18 02:28 PM

Decided to go pay my cousin in Washington state a visit during the labor day weekend and she had a fishing trip lined up for us; we fished out of La Push Washington and cant wait to go back.

The first salmon of my life.... Shortly after catching this one I got my second and that filled my 2 per day limit.

Had them in the boat, gilled and on ice QUICK;- You know your captain can handle a fillet knife when old men twice his age start video taping him cleaning fish.

I'm really uptight about making sure fish get bled, iced, cleaned and frozen ASAP - This fish was loaded into my Yeti two-40 and checked as a bag for the flight home.

Final results - dried onion flake & lemon pepper; grilled over indirect heat. Skin side down on NON-oiled foil.

Re: Salmon Trip - Labor day weekend - 10/11/18 02:44 PM

Thanks guys,

The MVP of this trip was my new Yeti Two-40; I loaded 12 bottles of Adelbert's beer in 750ml glass bottles with champagne corks for my cousin's husband and a couple of those 1 lbs blue gel ice packs in the Yeti, filled the air space with left over plastic packing pillows sealed the zipper shut with a luggage tag and checked it as a bag for my flight to Seattle - All 12 bottles made it still cold and intact!

Then when I flew home I loaded it with 4 lbs of gel ice and the frozen Salmon, checked it as a bag with a total of 10 hours travel time and the Salmon was still rock solid frozen when I got home; Now I'm ready for Costa Rica fishing in November.
