Back Lake Fishing

Back Lake Fishing - 08/09/18 03:28 AM

Monday was a holiday in my part of the world so after a weekend of doing chores I decided to take it easy and see if I couldn't try out the new Zodiac. I left the cabin at dark thirty figuring I would drag the new Zodiac into a back lake. This particular lake is only accessible via 5 miles of old un-maintained logging road (or float plane). I bear hunt the shores of this lake and in the past have only ever gone in with the canoe on the roof of the truck.

This gives a small idea of what the road is like. This was on my way in for the spring bear hunt this year:

Pulling the trailer 5 miles on this road ended up taking me 2 hours each way (normally takes me 1 hour without the boat trailer). The trailer and boat (Zodiac) are light and the trailer is a tilt affair much like a snowmobile trailer that is very versatile in the absence of a launch.

My coon hound had as much fun as i did:

Couldn't let the hound have all the fun so managed a few small walleye for lunch but really had a lot more fun pulling in 7 or 8 like this one (3-4 lbs) and countless 1-2 lb'ers that were a mixed bag of smallies and largemouth plus a handful of northern pike. That's the only pic that halfway turned out as trying to set up the camera and use the timer on the boat proved to be a challenge.

Pulled up on shore for lunch:

Great little lake that has about 30 miles of shoreline, lots of underwater structure, lots of islands and little bays and virtually no pressure - not a single building on this lake and did not see anybody all day.
