Bear Hunt success

Bear Hunt success - 06/22/18 07:25 PM

Some time ago I asked for recommendations on a good place to go bear hunting...The Hunting Forum did not disappoint!!! The name Sherwood Outfitters in Alberta kept coming up. Well, we took the plunge and 8 of us booked a hunt for two bears per person. I took my 9 year old son along just to observe. The hunt was amazing. I saw in excess of 3-5 bears per sit. Of the 8 of us 3 did not kill two bears, but they all shot an additional bear but could not find it. We recovered 15 bears total of which 5 were color phase. Tyler, the owner, did a great job of making sure that we had everything we needed from the time we stepped off the plane in Canada until we lifted off to head back to Texas. I have a ton more pics, but these are some of the best.

Looks like an amazing trip, especially to share as a father/son trip. How do you plan to top it next year?

Great.

What does one do with a bear after its killed. I tried to eat one once. Nope, never again....disgusting.
Rug? Mount?

One of my guys had his dad send some bear jerky to Afghanistan my first trip there. I chewed on a piece and about puked. I don't know if it had rancid fat or what but that will be why I never try it again haha. I know lots of people do eat and enjoy bear meat.

Very cool. I too took my son a couple weeks ago for college grad black bear trip with cross bows to Ontario (both of us had success) and a great trip.

Bear meat is good (mine are berry/grass fed for most part) if you take care of the meat removing all fat and prep with a good recipe. I've been grilling and pot roasting ours.

Congrats on a successful hunt while building timeless memories with your son. up
