One hung in the fence, got him out though

One hung in the fence, got him out though - 12/27/17 12:46 AM

We were riding down a fenceline (we have both sides of the fenceline leased btw) at the lease with my wife, my kids, and a buddy of mine. Little fella came running across and got hung up in the fence. We managed to get him free with some mesquite branches and he ran off with a little limp. Seems to be fine, hes been showing up on camera since then.

Our boys thought we were heros too. Haha.

Excellent pictures, and good job dad up
For so many witnessing deer jumping an 8 foot fence with no effort and plenty of room to spare, it is amazing how well deer can bumble a 4 foot cattle fence.

I'll never forget that when I was a young kid around 8 years old my Dad did the same thing.

Your not only teaching them to hunt you're also teaching and showing them humanity up

Yup, good job. up

I did that with my kids one morning last year. We were driving into town and saw a young forked horn hung in the fence. Looked like he had been there most of the night and was exhausted. It took me about 10 minutes with the tire iron I had in the truck but I got him loose. I had to goose him to move but he finally moved off about 20 yards and laid back down. I said we'll just leave him alone and let him rest. We drove into town and on our way back an hour or two later, we checked on him. He was in the same place and was already dead. Sometimes they seem so resilient, and sometimes they just seem to give up. confused2

Good Job! I tried to free a deer from a fence once, a young buck, and he beat the (bunker material) out of me!

Yep sometimes they just wear them self down past the point of recovery. Had the same thing happen to a nice 8 point about 15 years ago. I got him out of the fence and he just laid down and died by the next morning.

Where I see them get in trouble is when they're running. Had a forkhorn hit the fence in front of me last week, he was running all out. He hit the fence about 8 inches under the top wire and did a complete forward somersault over the top. He was staggering with his tongue out after that.

Thanks for the positive reinforcement y’all. I was raised around horses and they seem to have a lot of the same characteristics as whitetail. It seems like stress plays a bigger role than the physical injury sometimes.
