Daughter's First Deer - 11/29/17 04:32 PM
Back in June, my daughter said she was done shooting rabbits, she wanted a deer this year. She is small, so I scrambled to figure out what she could shoot and not dislocate her arm, LOL. I didn't like anything off the shelf. So we bought a Howa action chambered in 6.5 Creeedmore, put it on a Boyd thumbhole stock, changed the recoil pad to a larger one, and scoped it out.
She took it to the range twice and seemed to be spot on.
Opening weekend for youth, we got skunked didn't see anything.
Opening day comes and at first light we see 3 doe under the feeder. She takes a shot at this one and drops her (I should have flipped the deer over, entry shot was perfect, exit is what you see, guess the deer was quartered). A few minutes later while we are about to step out the blind another (or one of the other original) doe walks out. So she takes another shot and that one did run a little, but was easily recovered.
I couldn't be prouder of her, 2 shots, 2 doe on her first opening weekend!
