Me,my oldest son,my Dad, and our good friend all went on our first Sandhill crane hunt this weekend.
We had a great time.

Wow y'all did great! Enjoy those ribeyes food We have them flying over our property, maybe we will be able to get a few, sure going to try!

I use to go door knocking around Stanton and Big Spring and folks would give me permission to hunt them. Fun to hunt and good table fare. if someone thinks they are a ribeye then your butcher need shot! They are like big dove to me and I enjoy dove meat so I would pass on eating them. Looks like you had great hunt!

Maybe not ribeye , but they do make a nice chickenfried steak,
on par or better than good venison backstrap , IMHO.

I will trade you a few sandhills for your backstrap anytime. More like brown eye in the sky.

Fun hunt for sure. Congrats. I've had a few ribeyes in my days and some sandhills. Not sure they are in the same catagory grin

Do you hunt them down here?


We don't hunt them, but have plenty around during the season. Every few years we will have a guest that wants to shoot one. I've had them several different ways and have yet to taste anything that wasn't horrible. Maybe I'll just try it raw next time.
