First Elk - 10/16/17 04:09 PM
Just got back from a hunt with Kyle Bell and Folsom Outfitters. We didn't have the best weather but ended up with a great hunt. The first day we were snowed out with winds gusting to 40 mph in the mountains. After the snow storm the temperatures continued to rise all week till we had highs in the 70s with 25 mph winds for the last three days.
Luckily I was able to close the deal on this bull. This was over a 2 mile stalk that ended up taking about 5 hours from the time we left the truck to the time I pulled the trigger. We came out of our last climb directly on to the 'vega' the elk were feeding on. I took the shot at 281 yards within 5 mins upon making it to the meadow.
That is Will Stringfellow, on left, with Kyle Bell on the right, and my father-in-law in the middle. Both Will and Kyle have appeared on the show Mountain Men.
