Congrats to my friend and favorite salt water captain for guiding his son to the new Texas State Record Tarpon. 229lbs! Great job Capt Mike!!

Never tasted any. Heard it's oily and not really good. Mike always releases these fish, but this time he made the exception to get the record.

Used to be lots of big Tarpon in Texas, in high school we used to sneak up the Brazos river in Freeport into the Dow outfall and catch lots of big ones. Not this big, but many well over 100lbs. They are not good to eat!

I've always wanted to catch one. I've seen the scales of a Tarpon in the Tarpon Inn, caught and signed by Pres. Roosevelt(?) at Port A. And they fished for them out of big wooden row boats. They were HUGE back then! I hope that place is still there.
