TROPHY DOWN - Record Book "BoarDillo." - 07/26/17 07:24 PM
East Texas trophy hunter Billy Ray DoRight harvested this potential new #1 SCI record book monster on his ranch in Walker County, Tx on July 25, 2017. The monster (10) ring "BoarDillo" weighed in at an astounding 120.04 lbs. and green scored right at 217 inches of hard shell mass. The behemoth critter also boasted a inside ear spread of 12.5" wow!!!..
Mr. DoRight describes The Hunt in vivid detail:
"I had game camera picks of this "freak nasty" from 3yrs. ago said Billy Ray "then he just disappeared.... Last Friday I was sipping a PBR and doing some scouting and came by an active "grub line". By the size of the grass divots I knew he was massive, only later to be confirmed by new game camera picks on Saturday and Sunday.
On the morning of July 25, 2017, I took up a stand downwind of the grub line hoping he would pass by on his way back to his bedding grounds... After 3 hrs with no luck I grabbed me a big hand full of Beehnut and I decided to "grub grunt". The still morning suddenly came alive with the sound of an approaching dillo. After a quick check with my binoculars I confirmed that he was in fact the monster "BoarDillo" I had been seeking. One shot with my trusty Remington 300 ultra-mag anchored the big big boy...
When I interviewed Mr. DoRight about his new pending record book "BoarDillo" he said "All my hard work has finally paid off". " I've worked the last 14 yrs. on my place here in East Texas to manage and create the right kind of habitat to grow some real trophies. We generally take at least 10-12 less desirable management "BoarDillos" each season and strive to keep a 3:2:1 boar / doe ratio.
Nutrition and habitat are the real secret to growing record book "BoarDillos". We have numerous food plots scattered throughout the property that are a mix of Bermuda and St. Augustine. However what we've really found is that they really put on the the winter weight prior to the rut browsing on my well manicured yaupon shrubs. Our yaupon in this part of the country contains 5 times more protein than normal counties in TX. Due to this natural phenomenon we don't need to do any supplemental protein feeding to build the shell mass in our animals.
We are truly blessed to have such great yaupon!!!
Mr. DoRight now plans to continue his quest for the the big "5" SCI (Silly Critter's International) He hopes to collect the other 4 being (possum, coon, skunk, and nutri rat) in the next few years....
Mr. DoRight lives in East TX and operates (Yard Army Outfitters Inc..)
