Got my first droptine buck! - 11/07/16 08:14 PM
Got this first pics of this guy the weekend before last. Had seen him last year on cam as a 9 point, but never got a good look of him in person. He doesnt have the best mass in the world, so I knew I had to get him early in the season before he banged his rack up too bad.
Saturday morning, got in the blind extra early and had high hopes for sun up. Shortly after the feeder went off, was already covered up in doe. Had a decent 8 point come in that could use another couple years, and 3-4 other young bucks who were definitely cruising around looking for love. Most of the pictures I had of the drop tine buck was in the evening, so once the cows came through around 10am, I didnt feel too bad about getting down and cooking breakfast.
That evening I got up in the same spot. The doe came in on a string soon as the feeder went off, and cleaned up the corn within half an hour. My spot is right on the edge of a large bedding area, and that's exactly where they headed once the corn was gone.
About half an hour before sun down, I saw 3 of the doe exit the bedding area and rushed passed the feeder. They weren't booking it by any means, but were definitely in a hurry.
I got my binocs up and settled on where they had left the bedding area. Not a minute later another young 8 popped his head out looking in the direction the doe went, but kept looking behind him as well. I took that as my que to get the 30-06 up.
The young 8 stepped out and got on the trail of the doe. Right behind him came the droptine buck. Soon as he cleared the treeline, put the crosshairs just a tad high on the front shoulder, and Boom. DRT.
Havent scored him yet, but was 22.5" wide. Very pleased to say the least!
