My wife's first - 11/24/15 02:59 AM
My wife has never been hunting before this last Saturday. We had some time so I took her out with me to show her the lease. The wind was bad during the morning and into the afternoon. It finally laid a bit around 2:30. We were after a mature doe for some meat, but momma wanted horns for the wall. Lol. We hadn't been in the blind more than 30 minutes when we see 2 does, each with twins. One was very skittish and jumpy. I kept thinking that a buck would show up soon as the rut has been getting closer. Finally around 4:15 I saw this buck sneaking through the brush. We only caught a glimpse of him but he looked like a good candidate for a cull. I told her he was headed towards the does we should wait to check him out when he showed up. After about 15 minutes he showed up right where I thought he would. Immediately I knew he needed to go, his body was large and I knew he was to old to only be a 7 point. He was facing us for a few minutes, so we discussed the final shot placement once he turned broadside. Finally he turned and momma put the hammer down. He was hit hard and only ran 20 yards before he piled up. After a few high 5's and hugs of celebration, she was ready to drop a doe or two as well. Lol. All the mature does with no yearlings had all left after the shot so we get wait til this Thanksgiving weekend to try again. I'm so proud of her for being as calm and collected as she was cause I was a nervous wreck. Lol. I think I've got a new hunting partner for life now and I couldn't be happier.
Picking out her doe.
Just before the buck came out.
That smile says it all.
