Strange. I first thought that the horn was coming from above, but its actually growing out of his head from just above the eye. Even the top antler is coming out of the wrong location.

This is what I thought, that he got poked in the eye in a fight and that it got broken off in his eye.

Cropped a bit for you. Where the top antler comes out there is a bulge. I can't tell if that is a wound around the eye.
