32" Low Fence Axis - 11/12/15 04:15 AM
Got in the stand about 3pm and did a quick survey and settled in. Looked at the THF and I looked up and saw a big ole axis body in the clearing that used to be a fence line. Got my scope on him just as his head was going into brush but could see velvet antlers. Where he was they sometimes cut across the clearing and go into the cedars and over the Hill without leaving cover. He slipped up. I watched as an axis doe and buck that was still growing his horns cleared the cedars and came into the open. I ranged them at 312 yards. I put my crosshairs where they stepped out and sure enough he followed. I tried to make sure he was good enough or the same one as the other night but didn't want to lose him so I let the Creedmoor bark. 120 grain Amax in the shoulder on a broadside shot. Bang, flop.
