Buddies Pic...is he legal? - 09/17/15 02:56 PM

First sorry the pic is the not the greatest but that is what he sent me.
my Buddy is first year in AR county. I hunt in one and I say this one is close. young buck, I told him to pass and he said his neighbor will probably shoot him. I told him in AR county he needs to meet all his neighbors and go through pics of deer and show them which ones they need to let walk. So what is everyones thought on the buck. I need to get back to my buddy with bow season approaching and he can have the talks with his neighbors.

thanks in advance

Clearly the coon is breaking the law of gravity which is clearly illegal and should be put down immediately.

The buck looks to be outside the ears and legal - just young IMO

Good luck on telling neighbors which deer they can't shoot.

Very true grin

Hopefully he'll use a little tact and make some progress with the neighbors and they can get a plan together for the future...but I wouldn't hold my breath

True, I said all along, 14"+ inside spread and 3-4 years old so not sure whom you're referring to with this.

I can confidently say he clears AR, but I would let him walk another year. Do you typically tell your neighbor's what they can/can't shoot? I'm interested in how they take that. I know ours would tell us to shove it, and we have a good relationship.

I'd take that buck in an AR county unless you're seeing anything better. He looks leggy to me and would benefit from an extra year, but I understand that's not always an option.

Thanks to all. I spoke with my buddy and showed him the thread.
We have talked to neighbors where we hunt but we never say don't kill a deer, we just all show pics and go over deer and talk about which ones are young and feel that they could be great if they get a chance to walk. Never tell anyone what not to shoot.
Good luck to all the hunters. Bow season is getting closer and I am fired up.
