Anyone ever seen an axis like this

Ok got it to work. Ive never seen an axis with swirls like this.

My wife shot this one and we are trying to decide if we mount it or not.

Very unique. I have seen a couple of whitetails with similar markings on the velvet but can not remember seeing an Axis with it. I would probably have it mounted.

Well you certinly don't see that everyday. If you choose to mount it make sure and keep the velvet cold until you get him to the taxidermist. Congrats on a very unique buck!

Back in the early to mid 90's I managed a ranch that had 1000+ hd of axis over at Sisterdale. I never saw one in velvet that looked like that.

This one was shot at our property up the road in stonewall.

Straight white lines in velvet is quite normal, but I have never seen the chocolate and vanilla swirl look, super cool.

Mine had that on his right horn all up and down it, but yours is on both which is cool

Most antlered animals will get some of the lighter/darker shades when the antlers are through growing and velvet is about ready to strip off. The Axis in the OP pics is far from being finished growing.

I got one mounted that has the swirl on its brow tines but not on main beams. Makes a very cool mount for sure. Nice kill! Congrats

Where did you kill him at if you don't mind me asking? Freeze drying those antlers would help ensure all the color stays in the velvet

i've seen similar marked velvet on moose. i've heard it call marbled velvet.

I shot one in velvet a while back that had swirls in the velvet, but not as dramatic as the one you have pictured. Very unusual.

Looks like he was on some type of "X Files" vitamin supplement. Mount him, solve the old anniversary gift dilemma and birthday at the same time.

He weighed in at 170 lbs gutted. Lots of groceries.

Very cool, I have several whitetail bucks do that. After they rubbed out, one kept the swirl, other did not.

I have never seen that before. I think he is truly unique. I would have him mounted as others have said. Congrats!

I just got mine back from the taxidermist. Full velvet as well. Makes a beautiful mount. Make sure they freeze dry the velvet.
