Is this a good black buck? - 10/14/14 05:23 AM

I have little to no experience with exotics and how to judge them. This guy and the little family has been showing up and I was curious how good he was. Thanks!!!

He has a smaller buck that has been sticking around some too

Top one ain't bad bud, smoke him...he could have a tad bit more length and curl but if he's free ranging it someone will tip him over without giving him a second look...how cool glad he showing up, good eating also. Here's one for comparison
But I would tip that first one...congrats up shoot very up front suckers vitals are far forward bang

Man I don't have a clue on them but if it was my first one, pretty sure it would take a dirt nap if I got a squeeze on him rifle Then I would get picky after that up

He's about equal to a 115-120" WT. He's good but not a toad.

Didn't you say owners don't want you killing BB?

Count the curls and look at the color. 4 curls is a good one and they need to be black not brown.

But he is only 116"ish...or are you talking about the one behind the black buck. He is a crab claw, so I will shoot him too grin

I doubt that I will end up shooting it because it would open a can of worms on the lease. But I would sure have liked too. I took some pics with my iphone and asked the rancher if I could shoot it. He didn't respond...I was talking to him later that day and he said "you should have shot it" bang

We have a pretty decent herd that lives in one of our open pastures and they were the first exotic to really take hold on the ranch so we have always had a no shoot policy. The herd is getting big enough that some could be taken, but if you wanted one with a rifle, it would be way too easy. They run out about 125 yards and turn to watch you in your vehicle. Not everyone hunts with a bow, or we would make a rule that you could only shoot one with a bow. Plus, if we all took one, it would greatly hurt the population.

Either way, I probably will not shoot it...but I sure would have liked too. I was just curious what a big one looked like and was curious what caliber that one is.
