Things I have made (Metal art)

Things I have made (Metal art) - 08/05/14 08:47 PM

Here are a few photos of thing I have built for folks. For several years I did this full time and really enjoyed it. Have been thinking of "doing it again" on the side, so figured I post a few, and see what y'all thought. Sorry for the photo quality, most are shop photos, but some taken by designers, as I was not allowed to have a camera in most of the homes I worked in. I have many other photos if you guy's would like to see more. Everything I make is "custom" and hand cut with a plasma, no CAD, punch press ect tra. Here is a small, quick sample. BTW, Thanks to Dogcatcher for your thoughts.

Thank you Pink!

Here are a few more. The table where taken by the designers at the studio, either at the residence or in their holding area. You'd fall over if you knew what those tables sold for! I didn't supply the rock tops, they had those custom cut in Taos NM, or order them from Italy. The "wedge" coffee table was strange to make, but that was what the client wanted so.....

Wedge table in the home.

This one took me 2 solid weeks (I tend to be picky) Here it is sitting waiting ffor the client to come fromAspen to inspect it.

I absolutely love the Gun/bow rack. I actually like all of it very much. How much would one of the gun/bow rack set me back. Also my wife would like to know how much a coat/hat rack would be with a deer seen instead of the elk. All of the pictures are awesome, great work

That's nearly as nice as Chickenman's work.

But really, by hand? Dang nice.

Re: Things I have made (Metal art) - 08/06/14 10:10 PM

Thanks again guy's. I sure do appreciate it. I could elaborate how much y'alls opinions mean, but I cant "bite the hands that fed me" prior.. Means allot

Sneaky, yes all by hand as far as the scenes go, I either draw out the scene or use photos given to me and draw them out, then cut the steel by hand to make what ever it is I'm working on. The most tedious part I have found, it making lamp shades, that's why they are so expensive generally. (Even cheap ones in stores are expensive?) Working with thin hide or mica can be a challenge.

I was never "high production" and found that is where the value is for actors, politicians, music people and just "plain rich" folks and the rest of us normal people LOL. Custom hand made and signed, seems to be important. I could try to make matching pieces and they'd be close, but never exact. grin up

Radical1, I will send you a PM, as for now I haven't been up to date on steel prices, but what ever I can come up with, I would do for every THF'r that was interested in something..Plus, I have to make sure I don't violate a THF rule. PM on the way.

Re: Things I have made (Metal art) - 08/07/14 08:47 AM

Thanks guy's. Believe it or not, I listen to music when I work, if it's John Denver, I do pretty good with the "flow". AC/DC on the other hand, never know what will come out the shop door! LOL

Kinda getting excited with the shop getting done, but it is a whole mess of "unorganized" right now. 2 years ago I found out my bones are on the down hill side, came if from working Colorado and New Mexico and ended up laying horizontal with pain I have never felt for almost 2 months. It has taken me this long and many pain pills to build my shop, I did every weld and put in every screw, but she is about done thank God. actually, I am just glad I can walk and do things, so look forward to time with the welder up

I'll post more until y'all get tired of them. grin

Here are a few mirrors. I like doing mirrors, fun to see what you can come up with.

This one is a "pine cone" simple mirror. I wish I had a photo close-up of a cone. I made one one night goofing off and they got pretty popular, I guess no one was making steel ones like these? Designers where buying them faster than I could tolerate making them LOL, they are tedious to make though. Wish I had better photos. Sorry about the chandelier clouding up the mirror, only photo og that one I have.

Made quite a few like this or similar in design. They too are somewhat time consuming and expensive to make. I have made a few for hunters using their own tanned hides and wish I had taken photos of those. bang If you can read what that one sold for, you probably will fall over LOL

This one I came up with after reading about a "warriors quest" , did you notice the moon ?

Another style I made for a very nice lady. She wanted simple but nice (cheap and within her budget)

One of the most complicated tables I've made. It sure is a "taste" thing, I didn't really care for it, but probably because the "out -of -norm" shape. Fit right in the spot they needed it though. As long as the custemer likes it right LOL

You cut those by hand, or use a plasma cutter?
