My first handmade fillet knife

My first handmade fillet knife - 05/27/13 02:22 PM

I have been putting this off for a while, I was worried about working with such thin steel but really it wasn't much difference. I'm about 90% happy with this one its a little stiffer than I wanted, but I was dead set on a fillet knife that would hold an edge so I went for 58-59 hrc on this one, its stiffer then my 8.00 wall mart knife about the same as my kitchen fillet knives.

11 1/4" total
6 1/8" blade made from 1/16" stock thickness 440c
handle is black and green g-10 with 416 stainless bolster simple nickel silver pins and lanyard tube.

nice... now you need to make one in a stabilized green pinecone so the handles look like fish scales.. or maybe a redfish color variation.... and then offer to me for real cheap because it is an awesome idea and is gonna sell you a bunch!!!! banana

Really like it. One of the best looking fillet knifes I've seen. The added bolsters with that black/green micarta looks really good.

I like it. It appears that the handle might get slippery when wet with water, guts, etc

That is awesome. I use the Fillet Knife for skining and cutting up my deer and hogs. I find it a lot easier.

Re: My first handmade fillet knife - 06/09/13 12:31 AM

I had to test the new fillet knife out today before I ship it home, I hope the new owner does not mind but I just could not pass up the opportunity. I will be making myself one as soon as possible the thing worked great. The back side tip of the knife was very handy for removing the ribs from the fillet, also worked great for making the initial cut, the thumb ramp cam in just as handy as I thought it would, not sure why more fillet knives do hot have this?
