Nilgai Success - 02/22/13 09:10 PM

I just back from a Nilgai hunt in far South Texas. These are big tough animals to hunt, lots of fun and lots of great eating

First time I saw one of those in deep south Texas I was impressed with its size. Great job there. Estimates on its weight?

Took him to the taxi today. Anybody have any suggestions on mounts other than a standard shoulder mount??

Re: Nilgai Success - 02/24/13 04:18 AM

Seen one mounted in the sneak position like you would have a whitetail mounted. It looked pretty neat.

Congratulations on your trophy up

Re: Nilgai Success - 02/24/13 01:34 PM

I was holding his head/neck up with my right hand. Just his head is amzingly heavy. I could only hold him for a few seconds at a time while we snapped as many pics as possible
I like the idea of a semi sneak or maybe the head turned to one side,
If anyone has any mount photos I would appreciate seeing them
Thanks

Re: Nilgai Success - 02/25/13 12:21 AM

No, it was about 5 to 6 mles north of Raymondville. I can't pronounce or even spell the ranch name correctly but it was someting like Yurgatia Ranch, something like that.

Congrats! Can't beat Nilgai hunting.

I went with a wall pedestal for my bull. Shows off some of the pretty silver cape, don't see many of them.
