Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge

Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge - 01/08/12 05:35 PM

We drove thru "the Hag" yesterday to view all the geese. I've heard they winter there by the thousands, but "only" saw in the hundreds. The wheat fields look slim, either drought or geese grazing.

They are planning a spring turkey hunt by draw. Not sure if it's this year, but it should be a bargain if selected. They're also overrun, as everywhere, with wild hogs & plan a drawn hunt there as well.

Google the Hag for more info.

Turkey have really done well up there. I have been seeing a lot of them on Preston Penisula for a while now. When A buddy told me he saw a flock I asked him if they were on a carcass. I was not sure he could tell a turkey from a buzzard. The next day I saw a big tom
