SD 2011/ Vacant Farm House Photo - 11/16/11 09:27 PM
SD Trip 2011. Hunted on family farmland just north of Mitchell. The corn was down and the bird numbers were not as bad as reported.
3 Guys, Shot 27 Birds and one Yote.
Calvin is about a year old and this was his first hunt. Day one he followed me went out front a few times, Day two he followed my old Brit around a bit and by the end of day two he was out front and smelling around. Day three, he ran down two crippled birds in the plowed field, flushed several birds on his own (last rooster I biffed, he chased it 200 yards across the field waiting for it to drop) Weird thing is he picked up pointing when he smells birds from my Brit. This is the first bird he retrieved
Called for yotes the first two mornings at sunrise. Nothing. Day three my father and I were driving down the property line road going to call at another draw and this yote was running down the road right at the truck. Crossed in front of us at a 100 yards and held in the bottom of the draw long enough for me to get out of the truck, uncase the AR, Chamber a round and provide him with a free dirt nap.
Vacant Farm House; Passed by it several nights at sunset and finally brought the camera along to catch this shot:
