Texas Bear? - 10/05/11 02:45 AM
Didnt kill a deer this weekend but did get a very interesting picture on my camera. Im 99.9% sure its a bear, that or a man in a bear suit! What do yall think? This is south of Sheffield Texas!
Hog. Look at the curly tail.
Dont think it is a bear though.
You will be 99.9 percent next time you go and your feeder is all jacked up like youve never seen.
Lots of bear pics this year
That appears to be a bear. Nice lil something extra to think about walking out to the stand opening(every) morning

LOL! Seriously! Hunt much?

Re: Texas Bear? - 10/05/11 03:05 AM
The walk would be exciting...but the wait in the stand before first light would probably get me more. Every critter that crinkles a leaf would send a shiver down my back

I hunted about 15-18 miles north of Sanderson towards Ft. Stockton just west of were the Hwy turns toward Sheffield in 1994 for mule deer. One of the guys had a corn feeder in draw called Big Draw close to the Longfellow. He said just before dark a large black animal come in between him and the feeder, run the deer off and then turned towards him and stood up on its hind legs. Was 100% sure it was a bear but ground was to hard to see tracks.

Re: Texas Bear? - 10/05/11 03:14 AM
The biologist on the ranch we hunted said that they had started to move into Texas from Mexico a few years before that one was spotted out there due to the bad drought in Northern Mexico. Now with trail cams there are more and more of them being seen.

Nice bear trap. Need to tie a rope onto that rock so when that bear pulls on the rope he gets a headache.
on the positive side, there are people paying good money to shoot those up north! man how cool would it be to harvest one of those with a stick n string in your own back yard!
has anyone else seen any bears in those parts??
Me and a buddy saw one near there going to del rio a couple of years ago
Let them feed and breed and eventually in 10 or so years

Where at South of Sheffield? I've seen them on the Poulter, Turk, and my cousin sees them on her ranch periodically (Packingham). These ranches all kinda border eachother. Also, across the road south of "terrell plant road" we had pics of them on the Brown ranch. Went out one morning to find my box-blind flipped over and huge claw marks on it. I just went back to camp.

That's pretty cool. Was watching the Today Show this morning while getting ready and they had a story about a bear getting in some folks house. That couple was pretty torn up.
Those morning walks will be very interesting!

And I thought the coon trying to crawl in the tree with me this weekend was bad .... might want to invest into a Chloe won't be much help this year but next year you can be a lil more protected.

Re: Texas Bear? - 10/05/11 06:41 PM
Red river has quite a few sightings each year.I think that's pretty cool.Wouldn't be cool trying to keep them from your feeder though.

I hunt a couple of counties over in Sutton. This spring we had several miles of old pipeline pulled up out of the ground by the state. While pulling the pipe the guys working the backhoes claimed they saw a couple of bears on our lease. I think it's very possible we may see more bears in that area in the years to come.

It's illegal to hunt them, but no one can say anything about self-defence!!! If it was my stand, my new concealed gun would be a .44 mag!!

Legit Bear Sighting...
its a bear , but dont shoot it might cost you a big ticket , plus if they keep breeding they will open a bear season sooner or later

Many times I walk to my stand without using a flashlight, but I would change my ways if I found that on my camera.

Are you kidding me? Look at the ears.
Clearly an elephant.........
We have a place a few miles north of Sanderson and got several pictures of the same bear the past couple of months. Talked to the biologist and back in March there were some big wildfires in the mountains in Mexico just south of Sanderson and it pushed a lot of bear up.
