Right bullet in the right place - 04/03/23 01:12 PM
I never go for a heart shot on a hog, I prefer neck, down and back from the ear. On this one, I really wanted to kill him, and as soon as I dropped my bipod, hit the ground, found him in my scope, armpit/heart was where the cross hairs landed. Had I cut him open, I'm sure his heart would have been mush. 90% of the hogs I kill, mostly big lone boars, are with a SST bullet, .308, 165 gr. SST. I really like getting some work with my 6.5 Creedmoor so in the off season it's what I carry, shooting 129 gr. SST. Things work repeatedly and it's hard to stop doing it: SST bullet on big hogs and deer, prone, off of a bipod. I wouldn't have selected 6.5 Creedmoor to kill the biggest animal I've killed but it worked out just fine.
