Your Ultimate Trophy - 03/29/22 05:38 PM

You get one hunt you can go on, for one animal, once in your life.......Where do you go?

For me, my ultimate trophy is a Rocky Mountain Bighorn in B.C

Red Stag. Patagonia or New Zealand.

I’m completely pleased with where I hunt big whitetails right now. No bucket list hunt for me. Interesting topic so I am curious about others wish list.

I got mine over 40 years ago. Mountain Goat in British Columbia. Hanging on the wall and every time I look at it, what
great memories it brings back. Of course back then the whole trip including air from Ft. Worth, to B.C. and the hunt, guide etc was
a total of $3,000 only thing not included was the mounting of the goat.

Re: Your Ultimate Trophy - 03/29/22 07:22 PM

180" deer on my land. LF of course.

Have never really had any desire to hunt anywhere exotic, except I would like to bird hunt in Argentina. Alaskan Grizzly or Moose would be cool as well.

that actually means its gotten cheaper. If you stuck that $3K in the market at that time, you'd have $48k today.

I still haven’t made a bass fishing trip to El Salto. That’s the only trophy destination I’ll ever go to. I would like to kill an elk in west Texas, but I won’t pay to do so. I might pay to run mountain lion with dogs one day but I doubt it.

a mountain goat from CO

and a Stone Sheep from Northern BC.
[Linked Image]

And I inherited this from my Grandfather who got it when he was a missionary in China before WWII
[Linked Image]

But I would dearly love to hunt an Ammon Argali
[Linked Image]

A Golden Takin

And a Zebra Duiker

All are still available on legal hunts but you need deep pockets for all of them except the Zebra Duiker and that one depends on a lot of luck.

Re: Your Ultimate Trophy - 03/29/22 10:37 PM

Had mine back in 2006. Nebraska has once in a lifetime elk hunt. Took 21 years to draw. 325 B&C 6x7 bull. Kept track of all costs from time I left until Bull in freezer and mount in man cave. Total cost (including mount and 11 cu ft freezer) $2,300. That wouldn’t hardly cover the kill fee alone today.

Very nice QMC!

I've been lucky enough to be able to hunt just about anything I set my mind on, within reason. I grew up from the age of 10-12 reading Jim Corbett and stories about leopards and tigers. Tigers will never happen, but about 50 years later I was able to hunt cats in Namibia, and fulfill my dream!!!

My grandfather and father all had the opportunity to hunt big jaguar in South America and I missed out on that, so that's always been an impossible wish list item. I also always wanted to hunt cape buffalo, that one is still a possibility.

But my ultimate trophy is a big Rocky Mountain Elk bull!

Man don’t let not flying stop you.

I’m not a fan of flying either, so I drive to majority of my hunts. Driving to Idaho soo and last year I drove to Ohio.

Maybe New Zealand Red Stag. If we are really dreaming, maybe a Kamchatka brown bear! I think that brown bears in the most remote parts of the Canadian boreal forest might be a runner up to that.

Re: Your Ultimate Trophy - 04/09/22 12:24 AM

I have been very lucky to go on some awesome hunts over my lifetime - British Columbia, Africa, New Zealand, Mexico, Spain, and half of the states in the USA it seems like.

I got to take awesome Gredos Ibex, Elk, Red Stag, Kudu, Impala, Bush buck, Oryx, and multiple trophy whitetail bucks.

But to be honest the 201 LF B&C book whitetail I took a few years back is something I do not think I can ever top and is my Ultimate Trophy

The one animal I have not connected with so far is a trophy mule deer - tried several times to no avail - before I get to old to do a hunt I am going to focus on a mule deer

For some reason I never had any interest in bear and a few other species - all in all I would not change a thing

First pic is of the Red Stag I took - he was number 3 in the world at the time
