Lifetime License Question

Lifetime License Question - 08/24/21 02:11 AM

I just went into Academy in Keller with my 13 yr old to get our licenses printed. We paid for his and then headed over to customer service to get it printed. They printed his and then I handed them my DL and ask them to print mine. I told them I had a lifetime license and they requested the lifetime license card that they said I should have received when I got my license(approx 15 years ago). They said they had to see that card and would not print my license without it.

Is this right? Has anyone here ever had this happen? I have never had to show this card before. It seems crazy to me that I would actually have to provide MORE documentation that some random dude buying a license in a given year.

that's not right- In the past I have been to Wal-Mart and Academy over the years when I didn't mail in for my lifetime license
and they asked me for my name and verified it with my drivers license and it pulls right up from the TPWD
data base. Then they printed it out for me. That person must be new and does not know how to look somebody up.

Sorry that happened to you.

I had the reverse happen to me I handed the person the life time card they started to look it up then asked for my DL and then found the info and printed the tags. This was at the Academy in Rockwall too.

Not right. You're ID should be enough. They should have just printed them. I get my wife's and 2 adult children's license tags printed when i get mine. I just give them names and address and they print theirs for me.

They always just ask for my DL # and it comes up in their system at Academy. Go somewhere else.

I've had a Lifetime Combo for 30 years and have some funny stories about getting my actual tags.

Went to the Academy here in Greenville and handed them my DL and asked if they needed my gold card, first time in 20 years I didn't have it with me. Not a problem.

Nowadays they can run it all by DL and as long as you are in the system, it shouldn't matter. Probably ran into someone new. I have had to teach several clerks at different stores about Lifetime Licenses.

That's not good. You basically fake the HIP Certification for your Wife and Adult kids??

As others have said, they don't' need the card. Everything they need is on your DL. I always give them my card, but they never use it - they only use my DL. The person you ran into is exactly the reason I just give them my card every year just in case.

They don't get HIP. Wife doesn't bird hunt (maybe this year). Children quit bird hunting as they grew up and only deer hunt when we go for Thanksgiving.

Went to a different Academy and all is well. Guess I just ran into that employee that shared my motto "Often Wrong Never Uncertain"

I always just hand them my old license and it has your number on it so it only takes a coulpe minutes.

Walked up, handed the girl my card & she said she had never seen or done one of those yet. I told her to take her time. She was very eager to learn & had it done rather quickly with a small bit of coaching.
