60 years since last time - 08/16/21 09:49 PM
I have my Grandpa’s old pre serial number Stevens bolt action 22. He taught me to shoot with it, probably around about 1955. Great old gun. Marble flip up iron sights, with the choice of a deep V or a small ivory pyramid. I have newer fancier 22’s, but nothing anywhere near that light, so I can shoot it offhand, supporting it with my ‘wounded’ left arm. And…there was a squirrel in the bird feeder. Before I could get him in the sights, he took off toward the woods, but stopped at the edge. About 40 yards. I dropped him like a bad habit. I bet it has been 60 years since I popped a squirrel with it. Papa would be happy. He was a rifle and machine gun instructor in WW1, and a wonderful shot with rifle or shotgun.

Great story 603. At the risk of sending this to the bunker, I thought the title was referring to Saigon at first. But I'd have been 20 years over for that

I am going to take my Dad's old rifle out this year and kill a deer with it. Might even take the rifle I killed my first deer with this year.

Well, maybe the squirrel just dropped and low crawled out of the danger zone.
