Poacher

Poacher - 04/25/21 10:16 PM

Went to clear my equipment out because we’re loosing part of our lease effective May 31st. When taking down my tripod I bow hunt from, I found a bright/shinny 6.5 CM case right next to the tripod and UTV tracks. I don’t own a 6.5 or a UTV. Not much I can do, but I hate POS poachers. Any point in letting the local GW know?

Only if you know for a fact the property isn't being leased by another party. If the property is being leased by someone else, you now know something about your new neighbors.

Had a LO and good friend let some guys come out to hunt his place I was leasing. Dude took the 8 point I had been watching from my stand. No, I was not consulted. What ya gonna do his place his rules. Just say’n, it could have been someone with permission.

If the LO is already whittling down your hunt area, without you all requesting it, I'd get off the whole dam lease right now. So you sit out a season or two? It's not worth the aggravation of putting up with BS, including unknown losers on the property.

You could, but if you aren't hunting there anyway, why bother? Are you willing to go to court to testify over poaching on land you will no longer be using?

I would do my homework before calling a GW. Check with the land owner and new leasers first.

Land is being sold and that’s why we lost that section of our lease. The land owner doesn’t live there and his family has zero interest in the land so it’s not likely them.

Maybe the new owners. I bet they’re from Dallas.

They may be gay, they have a 6.5 Millenial.

If that's the case then unless you've got game camera pics of the poacher, calling the GW won't do much other than letting them know there's a poacher in the area. I spent the last decade incarcerating people based on NIBIN hits as well as shell casing comparison evidence. It's quite difficult, especially in a rural setting, where there are no other exemplars for comparison.

Right, and technically, there isn't evidence of poaching. Tracks and an unrecognized shell casing only indicates trespass by themselves. It is an assumption that somebody fired a gun at an animal at that location, and it may be a good assumption, but one not backed the evidence noted.

Agree with creek 100% but the LO likely won't care. He can lease to someone else before the sun goes down.

confused2 i know first hand, some leases were seperate...
Twas leased to deer hunters (deer season) turkey hunters (turkey season) dove hunters (dove season) & quail hunters (quail season)....

They all shared lease payed leasing fees... Could also be LO letting hunters on for hog problems...
Leases i was on were year round... & we had people (weekdays) hunting without our permission...
Most hunters on leases hunt opening weekend then it trickles down ta weekends, holidays, or personal pto...
Foundry worked @ was qubalo ran 3 days, Wendsday with 20hrs twas me last day.
Found people on lease without permission couple times.. Lease teas ruffly hour away...
Started looking for leases closer,
Bro-in-law had family land hour away, people hunted it without permission...
& LO do sell out ta big buck$....
Know some who had a five year lease, they put up fancy cabin, electricity, running water, did the big bucks, 4 deer county... Only ta get out bid by bigger buck$, they did all the work. LO received the rewards...
It happens ..
Sorry ta hear about your situation...
That's why say : Twas a Blessing whin a WMA opened up just down the road...
Had tried the draw hunts, first moved ta texas didnt get drawn... Had place could hunt deer, free, buck only (rifle), archery 2 deer (1buck 1doe or 2 does) if remember right... Got on deer lease cause it had the 24-7-365 hog hunts...
Hunting - twas becoming a Richmans Sport...
Look @ all d games played, threads have been shut down in d OHD forum...
& my 2cents that's biggest reason for hog problems... Hunters come on this forum ta hunt hogs, & get rifle shot down... Reason pretty much stay outa d deer hunting forum, show respect.
"If it put in OHD section, i puts me 2cents low-income worker... Wanted in all 50 states...
pappy..."

Again, sorry hear about the lease problems, best wish's...
Lots if games played, that's your money...
Social distancing from MN...

That sucks what good does it do to pay for a lease and feed deer you've paid for. Time to move on.
