I give you an A+ for being direct and to the point. As mentioned the public hunting land may be an option as well as hog hunting outfits in that area, may try a google search or check the Guides and Outfitters section on THF.

You need a license from the corps of engineers to hunt on that land and it can take up to a week and I leave in 6 days, that’s usually what I would do

Re: Let me hunt your land please! - 12/22/20 02:58 PM

I did it when I was in HS people around the area would let me and my buddies do it, I haven’t been back in a while just wasn’t sure if that was an option anymore or not.

Ft. Riley has fantastic hunting! I used to hunt there all the time when I went to K-State.
The fishing is good at Milford too.

Takes 5 min. Walk into the office, present hunting license, leave with permit.

Why not ask those people who let you hunt in the past?

Too many people have had idiot strangers on their lands that shot up things that should not have been shot, left trash behind, didn't mind the gates, and otherwise were poor guests and had stopped letting people on their property long before the Chris Kyle movie.

Legal Game/Seasons
Dove, squirrel, rabbit, waterfowl, upland game birds, and feral hogs. Hunting seasons and bag limits are determined by the State of Texas . All state hunting laws apply on Corps of Engineers managed lands. Fur bearers and non-game species may not be hunted or taken. Feral Hog hunting will be suspended during ALL Collin County Deer Seasons (2 October 2020 - 18 January 2021.)

He’s SOL on hog hunting Lavon this year during deer seasons.

Good luck hunting on base.

Hit up a couple local feed stores or country cafes where the farmers/ranchers hang out and ask around. In person would be your best bet in your position and gathering spots is a lot easier than riding around knocking on doors.

Re: Let me hunt your land please! - 12/23/20 03:34 PM

I grew up in New Mexico hunting on public land. This was in the 80s/90s but there was a ton of land and it wasn’t crowded at all. Hardly ever saw anyone and the hunting was good. We moved to Texas in the mid nineties and what a shock it was with no where public to hunt. Well there are a few places but from what I have seen they are packed.

When it come to private most people have a ton of time, money, etc invested into their property and place a lot of value on hunting there and for that reason they don’t just let anyone come and hunt. My place doesn’t have trophy animals and I am certainly not saying it is worth this much but for me to even consider taking someone I don’t know hunting out there they would have to pay me north of 20k. I bought my place so I could have my own private Mecca and taking strangers out there just isn’t part of the plan. I have wanted my own place for over twenty years and never could afford it but I have it now and am going to enjoy it as I see fit.

If I had six days I would hit Davy Crocket national forest and hunt the north end of it on any feeder creek that runs into the Neches. Wild country and a neat place. Plenty of hogs too but may be mostly nocturnal.

Caddo should be no more than an hour and a half drive for you. I have always enjoyed hunting the Bois D’Arc Unit.

There are way too many expecting something for nothing. Might have been better to say someone would be willing to exchange some work for hunting or anything other than just let me hunt. I am thinking there is some desperation there. Feels like he is missing something and hoping to catch up with it. Don't know what "it" will be like but hope he finds "it".

When the hair stands up on the back of your neck get ready to fight or run. Not inviting trouble. 21 posts over four years and most are
“ Can I get some of what you have?”

Change your strategy, do your research, pay your share, enjoy your hunt.

Military or not, it's pretty bold to just flat to request "Let me hunt your land". It reeks of entitlement and/or ignorance.

Your best bet would be to spend time on the forum get to know people maybe offer to help people with work on their land. Your not gonna get very far trying to use your service to get a handout.

Nothing but trouble......

Had a Minnesotan on Castboolits.com tell me I needed to donate my land to the state when I pass so others can hunt. I suggested he do the same with his home.

I never had anyone ask to cut cedar, build fence, etc.

LOL...

I have seen outright hostility on other sites where someone not from Texas thinks a landowner should let them hunt hogs for free. They get plumb bent out of shape when they don't get their way. laugh

Frankly, I'd rather have the hogs than some hunters with attitudes like that. Seriously.

I don't even like guests on my lease. They don't treat it with the respect that paying members do. If I owned, I'd be generous, under the right circumstances, rarely, more like almost never, and definitely never to a random person. This request reminds me of the time a homeless guy asked me for $100.00.

I drive through Kansas regularly. Have seen a couple of nice bucks from I-70 IVO Fort Riley, chasing does with no cover to speak of in sight. Quick google search tells me it has some prime opportunities. You need to get your post permit and spend some time scouting out there. Probably got free walk in coolers, place to hang/butcher your animals, probably even a few old timers hanging out around the sportsmen’s center to help you out. I have never been to a Army base that doesn’t offer decent hunting and fishing.
