COlt you don't have a muzzie, you got a crossbow....thats why the deer are outta range. Get some gunpowder behind that bolt and shoot em!

Re: 28° - 12/02/20 11:15 PM

rofl cheers all that (shotgun/muzzleloader & muzzleloader) tags cost extra..
Then ya have ta put in for draw doe (two does in pic) tag... bang i think they need ta give more doe tags during gun hunts... just my 2cents... Archery tis buck or doe.. only 1 deer...

Tis suprising just how cold 28°, (heat wave for here), gets whin ya up in tree stand with wind blowing...
Coldest hunt twas roughly just shy of 30yrs ago ...
Foundry shut down for 2 weeks maintanance... We went ta MN for Christmas...
Temps were around 60-80° below 0 with wind chill...
Bro & i went archery... Have never put thsatmuch cloths on..Bro said be out 30min tops...

rofl thought piece of cake... We were in tree stands, wind howling, roughly 30yrds apart.
Within first 5min, i was ready call it quits... We sat... just about 30min into it.
A Dow eases towards my bro. bounce banana2
We had mits, pull ed off then goves... He draws back...
Then ping ping ping, his arrow falls off string hitting every limb..
He used fingers... glove messed up..
He got a trigger release for Christmas...
If deer would have showed up @ my stand.. i couldn't have pulled bow back...
deer just watched & eased on...
Sometimes these wins...
Awesome memorries... The true Trophy...

Our hunting is over, trapping now. Spouse has been making wax dirt for the cold, snowy sets.

In the bitter cold, not much moves here either.

Good luck.

Re: 28° - 12/04/20 05:47 PM

cheers very little experience in trapping, do know if ya get a skunk in trap, go ta creek, skin it under water standing up stream... rofl

Basically do the archery deer hunts. Bought two .50 in-lines, first was used & never cleaned. bang thought could get it cleaned, with all the new products, twas wrong, & finaly found a .45 in-line but tis for a person with longer arms than me, put scope in it , & not proper eye relief... Stll prefuree 45 ball & cap sidelock, both are in texas , started new collection here...

Got 3 weeks of muzzleloader season going on now, slug/muzzeloader, was few weeks ago, lots of deer taken.
Farmers got crops in... not much area ta hide, few groves of trees, archery hunters, so deer usually avoid them.
Been a lot of deer taken during the muzzleloader season..

It gonna be a tough season for archery... 5 deer take n last year...
Might haveta think outa the box, had two young does last night within range of tree stand, they come from behind, couldn't turn around & shoot, sitting back ta tree, they omoved out threw thicker brush ta right...
bounce at least seeing deer...

Last year @ this time we was doing some ice 🎣 fishing, it no were thick enough this year...
Best wish's...

That would depend apone the type, in-line vs old school & the shooters ability...

Ask the experts in the muzzleloader section...

My goodness we would have busted pipe everywhere
I had a buddy from Michigan that use to come down and hunt with me he used to tell me stories about hunting in the cold up there he said he would see more deer n Texas in one mornings hunt than he would see all year in Michigan some years that man absolutely loved to deer hunt
I lost my buddy 21/2 years ago I think about him all the time especially deer season
It was a chance meeting and we became the best of friends
He was from around bellaire

cheers We had a 49ft trailer early years in texas ... pipes busted every year...
Sorry ta hear of your loss...
Up here, hunten/fishing is a big thing... Not sure about Michigam, here it been family/friends get tagether & hunt..
The slug/muzzleloader (back in 70's didnt see in-lines) hunts were very short. Buck only 3 day hunt, aply for doe tag, 1-2 day, had ta hunt then weather got doe tag or not..
Now they have slug/muzzleloader season & right now its 3 week muzzle... Just got a .45 in-line, prefure them over the .50 .. Need ta shorten butt stick so get good eye relief, hopen ta use it next year... my percussions, .45 Kentucky are still in texas ...
Big differance of hunting techneek, With the longer muzzleloader seasons, & the in-line, see box stands open up... It a lot warmer sitten in box stand...
You do any of the hog hunts ? bounce miss that big time... Hunted the WMA's (public land) & had set up for whin they came inta the deer food plots & corn feeders, they followed the creeks... WMA's twas me favoret, Archery deer/hog & the 3 months after deer season..
Best wish's this season, hope ya have a good one.. Memories tis the true Trophy...

Re: 28° - 12/05/20 07:39 PM

Deer hunting is huge in Michigan he said years back when the season was shorter his father uncles aunts would camp for nearly the whole season he was a great story teller I could listen to him all day we became family my kids called them grandma n grandpa
I own 3 ranches 2 of them have lots of hogs mostly nocturnal every once in a while we get one in the daylight every now and then I caught about 40 on one place last year in traps
My sons run them with dogs sometimes with their friends

Re: 28° - 12/07/20 05:56 PM

cheers again sorry for loss.

Have had invites for hog hunts. when they would tear up people's yards & such..
They can be destructive, They had done some on property lived on..
So I switched ta controlling them & did me deer archery & Sabine...
Whin it floods it push's everything out, son & I new the high spots & take me boat & hit them
Always a few get caught on the high spots...
Best wish's &
