Butterflies - 10/03/20 11:39 AM

The butterflies have been migrating through here for the past week. As thick as I have ever seen them. Should be a good crop of army worms this year.

I killed 1000 of them coming back from Brady, and emptied my windshield washer

IIRC Army worms come from a moth

If they are monarchs you wont have army worm issues. These are good butterflies.

2009 article, but should still hold true

"Call it coincidence, but the snout nosed butterflies and army worms are not the same animal. Snout nosed butterflies emerged a month or so ago with avengence and have been seen around town since. They seem to prefer native grasses to find pollen, but are considered benign insects. Army worms just so happened to explode around the same time. Many people have confused the two for the same species, but they are very different."

Hate those dang army worms. Luckily I got my pastures cut before they hit this year.

Don is right, there are Snout Butterflies by the millions out there right now. They even had them on the local news a day or two ago.

Yeah, I killed thousands of the butterflies this week. Drove from Corpus to Three Rivers and back on Thursday, and some places it was like driving through heavy snow.

I drove to Corpus today and the front end of my truck looked like it had hair by the time I got here.
