Hunting with .50 BMG

Hunting with .50 BMG - 09/20/20 11:48 PM

I just posted a pic in the photos forum, but I’m curious, anyone ever hunt with .50 BMG? It’s always seemed extremely overkill to me, but recently took a hog laying prone with one from around 250, and gotta say it was a blast.

I prefer using a 20mm Vulcan, myself. No point in being undergunned.

50 BMG is probably the most underrated prairie dog gun on the market these days.

Didn’t make too much of a mess.

The landowner where I hunt, my friend, was working on a tractor and hogs showed up and were eating the hay bales. He yelled at them, didn’t go away, threw a wrench at them, they came back. Goes to the gun room and of course the safe is locked.....the only rifle not in the safe is the Barrett.
Twenty-five yards with an A-Max. Spent the rest of the afternoon with a long stick getting hog parts out of the trees.
Other lesson learned, don’t shoot the 50 from inside the barn.

Lmfao. The can helps a little bit but I wouldn’t shoot it from inside without it... I hit this one with a FMJ and just put a giant hole in him

If you really want to make a blast with it on hogs other than some military ammo that we cannot get, look at the frangible loads designed to expend all the energy in an 18 inch cone in soft tissue, can you say make a hog look like a pasture poodle with a 08.
