Mills County Pig Hunts

Mills County Pig Hunts - 08/26/20 03:12 PM

Tossing around the thought of offering some nightly/early AM pig hunts on my property. I have them coming in pretty regularly at 3 of my 4 feeder locations. I do have traps that could be utilized. I feed year round and have plenty of cover and water, so they are there, as I said, regularly.

All that said, in wiser opinions than mine, would someone pay for this opportunity? I am there all the time but just don't have time to kill em off/trap em in big numbers. 1 or 2 yes, but no way am I able to put a huge dent in 'em.

PM if interested. Like I said, I pay for feed year round( for deer) but since the pigs have now caught on I'm thinking a nominal fee or trade of some kind.

Most the people I know in Lampasas and Mills county that are serious about fixing their hog problem are paying trappers and others to fix their problem.

I'm sure they would pay but if it's a big enough problem I wouldn't charge. I used to have a big problem but took a bunch of guys out. All they had to do was bring the ammo, beer and food.

All good points...not a huge problem...YET! Main problem I have is getting those friends out here when I'm here...I dont really want to turn people loose without my presence. What do trappers generally charge for their services?

We caught 28 in a few days with this thing we built. I had people come and pick out and clean their own hogs.

Buddy in lampasas pays a guy 500 a month and that covers 50 hogs. Guy has a trap he can drop at anytime and live video so he can see when a group is in the trap. Prob some cheaper options out there. I wouldn’t allow hog hunters on my property without references and without me there until I got to know them and knew I could trust them.

On a side not if your just looking to offer up some hunts to help pay for feed then I believe you need to get the license from TPWD. I’m sure there are people that would pay a 100 bucks to come kill some hogs but that’s not gonna fix your problem.

Appreciate it Sapper and Hook! Awhile back the neighbors helped with some trapping and it was quite the scene. Long story short they got all they wanted and then some in a days time!!! Needless to say they are still recovering from the processing!

I've seen those operations that have the huge circular, remote activated trap! That would be the way to go to put a dent in em from the get go!

Hook, do you mind sending me a PM with the guys name your buddy uses? Thanks!

We do our own. Sapper's buddy knows a guy. I did just talk to a guy who has the drop traps and is a hog buyer\seller but I don't know if he travels. I'll get some info next time I see him.

Build your own large trap. you can purchase a camera from 150-400 dollars that will send pics to your phone.
You can build a remote trigger for 300-350.
Maybe have lights on your feeders so the non thermal guys can hunt and I am sure you could sell hunts if you wanted Good luck

I know some hog trappers in Comanche and Zephyr. I’m assuming you’re on the south side of Mills county?
