Blind and feeder question

If you only had 1 blind and 1 feeder area to hunt. What direction would your set up be? Ie. Blind facing feeder at a south east direction. You could also say something like more south than east. Just wondering what the masses think with trying to hunt wind direction.

I would set up where the feeder is not down wind from the stand for the predominate wind directions ... winds usually from the SE and shifting to from the N-NW when a norther blows thru in most locations I have hunted.

^^Generally I agree with PMK. I assume you are not talking bow hunting although pretty much same answer but too many other variables to generalize a bow set up. For me, and a lot will disagree, but for rifle hunting I put the stand as far from the feeder as is reasonable to shoot. I also try to always road corn when possible and I corn away from the feeder in at least a couple directions and once again corn as far from stand as you can. With most of our setups we have deer coming and going from feeder to food plot to road corn and at the proper distances they just seem to rarely wind us.

I like my blinds to the NE if feasible. My predominant winds are from the SW and NW. So far this has worked for me til that pesky E wind shows up

Would not want the blind facing east, south, or southwest.

Prevailing wind is south-southeast 80% of the time so your stand should face south. This is especially true for bow stands. Although it never hurts to have a north facing set up for cold fronts.

I always try to set up feeders to the east of my blinds. Yes, there is the annoying morning sun. But during deer season the winds shift often from north to south and having the feeder to the east means you can hunt in most winds. Now, setting it to the west would also work, but the sun in the evening can be HOT, so that's why I go east, I'm glad for the sun's warmth then. There are LOTS of other factors that can weigh in to feeder blind orientation but with all other things being equal I go east.

A google earth image always makes it more fun as well.

I prefer feeder to be northeast or northwest of the blind, Next would be to the southeast.

As my prevailing winds are predominantly from the south west my blinds are east or north east of my feeders. However if I'm elevated sufficiently I have less of concern

3 or 4 would be my choice but still depends on prevailing winds for that given area. Most of the places I hunt have either a SE or NW prevailing winds is the basis of my choice, not so much in relation to the satellite image.

For my location, all but location 3 would lead to a wind problem, so I would pick three. However, I prob wouldn’t put that where it is in that map....I know that wasn’t the point of the map.

Anyway, find the prevailing wind for the area, and set up so you will be downwind if the feeder, not vice versa. For my area the winds are more typically south, SW, Se, or if from north they typically come in straight north or NW, very rarely NE. So my stands will ideally be NE of the feeder.

Set up blind and feeder perpendicular to prevailing wind direction. Also, try to set feeder location so that you are not looking at sunrise or setting sun.
