Anyone know what this skull belongs too? - 04/01/20 04:44 PM

My daughter and three grandsons have been staying at my cabin in Colorado for last three weeks. They went up there for spring break and then all the ski areas closed and school closed back in Dallas, so she decided to just stay there instead of coming back to Dallas. The boys found a hole and started digging and came up with this skull. they want to know what it is. Any thoughts?

Need some more pics of teeth and back of skull and over shape of the skull.
Nasal opening looks pretty distinctive. Maybe a cat.
Not a beaver I know that.

Stay safe, fishing will get good pretty soon.
Nice storm coming our way later today through Thursday. Might get some snow your way too.

Also something to give an idea of size.

First guess... skunk.

Could be a pet semetary!

Turtle is a good guess, but the ribs are all wrong. I would guess that it is a fish skull. It sort of looks like a bowfin, but bowfin should not be in Colorado. Similar flathead shape would be a catfish, but doesn't look quite right for catfish.

Sucker perhaps. Lots of unusual Sucker/Redhorse type species in Colorado.

Those are fish ribs. Nothing with a head that big, would have ribs that small, except a fish.

Good call, I didn't look at the ribs that close.
