CWD In Austin - 03/01/20 06:45 PM

There has been one confirmed case of Chronic Wasting Disease in Travis county. Believe it was found northwest of Austin.

In a wild deer or a breeding facility?

I think it was a wild deer. There was a place in Kimble county that had problems as well. Kimble was a breeding facility I think.

I have not heard about a case near Austin but there was a confirmed case in a Kimble County, a deer breeder from what I understand.

Hmmmmm…...Not Good! With the huge population around Austin and subdivisions could be a mess.

So True...any more word on this? I usually get an email from TP&W when something like this breaks but I have not on CWD in Austin.
I heard that the case in Kimble County occurred on a deer breeding facility below Segovia, but I have not verified.

Re: CWD In Austin - 03/08/20 12:01 AM

I have only seen stuff about captive animals with CWD near Austin. Sometimes it can be misleading, until you read the whole article. For example this mule deer with CWD is from near the new mexico border but until you read it you'd think it was a free ranging mule deer in Austin.

Free ranging mule deer in Austin? That dont sound right let's read more...

I did see one about a captive raosed animal harvested at "release site", not sure what that means exactlt hf/lf or what?

But here's a link to the Texas CWD news site:

We put down a deer that was suspected to have CWD in Llano county 2 weeks ago. TPWD picked the deer up for testing, awaiting the results.

Hate to see this enter another state. It’s pretty much spread through a huge portion of Nebraska now. I hope Texas has good luck at controlling the spread.
