Special Plate Fee?

I bought the "Hunt Texas" license plates for the Tundra, mainly, 'cause the state SAYS that the money goes toward Mule Deer, Pronghorn, and Bighorn Sheep counts, management, conservation, etc., if I'm remembering correctly.

It's time to renew and the line on the invoice got me to thinking - do you think the money actually goes where they say it does, especially at renewal when it's just a line on an invoice that goes to some state accounts receivable department?

I had the plates too, but then I realized that it defeated the purpose of having a lifetime license if I was paying to help TP&W. Also i didn't want to give the antis or thieves a reason to target my vehicle. I now have normal plates.

My answer to your question - maybe, but it will be hard to know.

I think a very small portion of the money goes toward conservation.
I would like to see the breakdown, but I would not trust that the money is going to where they claim it is, and maybe only a small percentage to where it is supposed to go.

Near as I can tell the State gets $22 and the charity/cause gets $8.

I had those plates for awhile, until my vehicle was broken into. The plate screams "I'm a hunter and there may be guns in this vehicle!"

Yep. I don't have anything on my truck to indicate I'm a hunter. Never been broken into.

I was actually considering getting one of these plates. After reading your post, I've changed my mind. You're absolutely right.

I have no other gun/hunting stickers on the truck. And although I respect your decision, I refuse to live in fear of the meth heads.
