Wyoming mule deer

Wyoming mule deer - 10/28/19 08:06 PM

Spouse took the last week of this deer season off work so we could hunt . Unfortunately the weather has other ideas. First day nice and warmish, 50's, then the first cold front hit. Wind and snow all evening Saturday and all day Sunday. Weather broke this morning for my chance before the next bigger front comes in with more snow and colder temps on Tuesday afternoon.
Spouse found a great 4 + yr old management 3 pt and I decided on a younger 4x4 . 50's for the spouse's hunt and 4 degrees with 5 inches or so of snow for me, but we got it done.

The 3 pt was very fat and big bodied, nice brownish colored hide . He had about 15 or so doe bedded down below him. We rode by one time and didn't notice him, but on the return back towards the ranch house he was spotted and the rest is history. Taken from his bed.

Two days later the weather broke and we went out for a look-see. This morning it was 4 degrees with 5 or so inches of snow. At first light everything was still bedded but we figured when the sun got high enough all would get up to feed a bit and warm up. The plan worked out well, we hunted from the truck so to speak, drove around to spot and make a stalk on foot.
First pics are of the meadows and hills we were hunting during the Sunday snow storm.

Both hides are going to a guy for brain tanning.

Nice Wytex! I left Wyoming without laying my eyes on a single elk. Saw a couple nice mule deer down low and some giant antelope.

Congratulations! I see your moving into the fourth season, when Wyoming isn't God's country anymore, it'll be starting up here in Minnesota anytime.

Yesterday was last day of season for bull elk so we thought we'd go up for a night and get in some hunting. Didn't work out for us. The fluffy snow drifted in the 30-40 moh winds and we could not get around the ranch, had a little issue on the way out, our tracks drifted in over the hour we were there and fed the horses. Took about an hour to dig out and get down the driveway.

One bull down but 2 cow tags left to go. I need some snow to melt as my truck is at the ranch waiting to get out.
