2019 TYHP Pronghorn Hunt Success - 10/21/19 03:58 PM

It has been about a year since I posted here. I have had a lot of things going in my personal life and just did not have time. We have some of that settled now and our hunting and shooting activity are in full swing.

We hosted the 2019 TYHP Pronghorn hunt in Dalhart on the weekend of October 4-6. We had 4 Youth, it was a very successful hunt.

[Linked Image]First Pronghorn Down, this youth is not only a TYHP hunter but also in our 4-H hunting and shooting program. This Prong horn down before lunch.

[Linked Image] Pronghorn #2 This young man made it back into camp just before Dark This hunt lasted around 12 hrs.

[Linked Image] This young Ladies guide had his vehicle brake down on the hunt. The local Game Warden stepped up and guided her. Her hunt was also about 12 hrs long. The game warden went above and beyond for her. She was very excited about hunting with a Game Warden.

[Linked Image] Last but not least this 12 Year old young man traveled about 14 Hrs to get to the hunt. This was his first fire arms hunt ever. He hunted from sun up till sundown on Saturday, but no Pronghorn on the property he was hunting on, So back up and at it bright and Early Sunday. Once again no Pronghorn on the property he was hunting.
Then he got a chance at a Prairey Dog. This young man harvested this Mighty Prairey dog with a brand new .243 at 181 yards. This young man had had some personal trials just before the hunt and needed a win. Judging by the smile on his face I think he got that win. I do not think he could have been prouder of a grizzly bear.

All Pronghorn were harvested on the Rita Blanca National Grass lands, the Prairie Dog was harvested on private property in Sherman County TX.
The guide provided by the farm went above and beyond for this young man.

We had a fantastic group of youth (and parents / volunteers) again this year. It was a very successful hunt and I look forward to the 2020 Hunt

dkershen,
Grate to hear from you. Man we got it going on here with the 4-H. We got one of our throwers running, a regulation trap field, and a good shotgun coach. Shotgun practice every Sunday Afternoon.
Got some rifles and Mine and Bobs handguns and we are having rifle and pistol practice every Saturday afternoon. Got a new coach for archery and will be getting that back of the ground soon. We will have the usual Duck / Goose hunts at Cactus this year and they are throwing in a Pheasant hunt or two.

It has taken 3 years to get equipment repaired, volunteers and opportunity together but I think we are taking off this year.

It is good to hear from you to, I have missed keeping up with a bunch of you all.
Not sure which organization you want to help with so I put contact information for both. They are both grate organizations.

Moore County 4-H does not have a web site
Extension office (806) 935-2594 Lisa or Chrystal can help. Please specify Shooting Sports.

Bobo,
We are working very hard at getting the 4-H going. Hunting, Rifles, Shotguns, Handguns, Muzzle loaders and Archery are all separate projects within shooting sports. We are trying to get them all fully operational. As a result we (Bob and I) are working with the 4-H multiple times a week in different projects.

TYHP is a fantastic organization that we are making available to our 4-H youth to supplement the hunting opportunity we have.

A passive fundraising approach on THF may work surprisingly well

Thanks for having us along Robert. It was an adventure for all three days! I know it will be etched indelibly in everyone's minds for the rest of their lives. This was definitely a test of fortitude for most of the people involved and I am glad everyone stuck it out! Thanks for putting it on and I hope to be part of it again next year.
