Your favorite out-of-state sporting goods store

Your favorite out-of-state sporting goods store - 09/26/19 07:22 PM

I always enjoy looking for the smaller, independently-owned sporting goods stores when the wife and I take trips to various places. I ran across one recently in Gunnison, Colorado that could have easily taken a lot more of my money if I wasn't so careful. Not sure if it was because elk season was in full swing, but the place was full of activity on a Sunday morning soon after it opened at 8am.

I second Gene Taylor's. We've got a place just south of Gunnison, so I'm at Gene Taylor's about 4 times per year. It's a great shop with knowledgeable and friendly staff. The sidewalk sales draw a lot of people inside.

That's where I picked up a lightweight hoodie for those not-so-cold morning hunts.

And you're right, the staff are extremely friendly and helpful.

When in Gunnison, I always stop at Traders Rendezvous just to stare at all the 100's of world class mounts.

I'm one who would not hesitate to make an out-of-the-way drive just to visit an exceptional sporting goods store.

Should you ever find yourself passing through Meridian, MS on I-20 or I-59, I strongly suggest stopping by Garrett's Sports Center and Archery. No website but you'll never find more firearms and hunting gear stuffed into so little square footage. They do have a Facebook page however.

Sports World Hunting Headquarters in Tulsa, OK. I wish their reloading section was better, but the guns make up for it.

I've only been in one Sportsman's Warehouse (Reno, NV,) but I could spend LOTS of time and money there...

Barrows Gun Shop in Butler, Georgia is the one I was talking about - had to go search for it and see if it was still around.
Seems like guns for miles in there.
Sorry for double post but couldn't edit my previous one.

Rocky Mountain Discount Sports
Casper, WY

They stock ammo from .22 short through .50 BMG, and have rifles galore. Even a bunch of southpaw stuff. Good selection of gear as well, from binoculars to parkas.

That’s the one place we stop every time we hunt in the Casper area.

Holiday in Montello, WI. Not any tremendous depth of product but good breadth of products, decent firearm (sporting) selection as well.

Sports store and a Subway sandwich shop up top, gas out front and a hardware store in the basement. They also rent equipment and sell beer and live bait. What else do you need?
