for $5K, you could go a DYI hunt in like 3 states. No brainer, elk hunt (or two)

Kinda depends on how many, and what kind of rifles you have...no?

Elk. The high lasts a lot longer than the thrill of a new rifle.

I have a rifle and have never been on an elk hunt(not likely to ever be able to afford one)....so it would be a super easy choice for me.

ELK HUNT!!!

ELK HUNT!!!

If you have 5 days vacation, You can afford an elk hunt. It’s as expensive or as cheap as you want to make it.

Hunt without a doubt. Like someone once said on here, don’t buy things, buy experiences.

Elk hunt without a doubt....memories that can't be bought or replaced with a new gun

Someday, you'll be too old and fat to go elk hunting. You'll never be to old to buy another rifle.

Easy choice Buzz... you already got a safe (or two) full of guns. Get out there and bag an elk while your health is still up to the adventure!

What gun cost 5 grand? Just curious.

But I would go on an elk hunt. Or Pronghorn.

Elk hunt for sure.

*BTW, it’s easy to drop $5k on a rifle and good glass.

Flip a coin. It's going to take you forever to figure out which rifle to get or where to hunt. But....if you do kill an elk, you probably won't be able to trade it off..

I wouldn't be spending $5k on a gun, but I sure know how you could lol

Im with the majority no brainer would be going on an elk hunt for me.

You already have safes full of hardware time to put them to use ELK HUNT for me.
The bulls I killed below were both on hunts with an outfitter for $5K. This price didn't include travel, meals, tips, drinks and taxidermy. When the dust settles your in for about $10K.
Both bulls were killed in Wyoming, free ranging, horse back hunting the old fashion way. Time to start getting in shape, I say this because you will be horse back 9-12 hours per day until you kill.

Good Luck!

Re: another rifle or an elk hunt? - 12/12/18 07:01 PM

I paid a lot of money for an Elk hunt back in the mid 90's, Selway Bitter root, Idaho. 9 hrs on horseback to get to the hunting area.

Outfitter failed to tell us the area we were hunting in had burned up in a forest fire!!!

But he offered to let us come back next year at a discount!!!!

Re: another rifle or an elk hunt? - 12/13/18 05:00 PM

Exactly why do you need a $5000 rifle??

Re: another rifle or an elk hunt? - 12/13/18 06:02 PM

Elk, I can carry the memories long after the rifle becomes too heavy.

At some point in life you have to decide whether you want to do it or talk about it.

Re: another rifle or an elk hunt? - 12/14/18 01:41 AM

Ditto what Syncerus said. When you start reaching early 60's and still have your wheels under you and health now is the time to do the hunts and things on your list while you still can.
