Hauling protein ????

I normally have a local feed store where I purchase my protein deliver and fill my 2000 pound feeder by the use of there hopper!
Fortunately right now they are having issues and not able to deliver it so I’m going to have to do it myself.

After talking to people at work it amazed me how much people have hauled in there 1/2 ton truck beds.
I was curious how much protein have you ever put in the bed of your own truck? Is it 1/2 ton or 3/4?

Mines a 3/4 ton so I’m not used to what 1/2 tons can normally haul.

Dont know what they are meant to haul, but I have put 25 sacks of corn in mime more times than I can count without any problems. That's 1,250 in a F-150

I've put 40 bags in the back of my Tundra. I'm only traveling about 10 miles... Not sure I'd put that much in there on a long trip.

Ive put 2000-2500 lbs in the back of several 1/2 tons on a somewhat regular basis never had a problem.

Same. Ford F150. one pallet - 40 bags, (2,000 lbs) plus some Protein bags - maybe 10 at most (500lbs)
That's about my limit.

Also if you can get access to a trailer its easier to pull a lot.

I haul a ton of cattle cubes every month in my 3/4 ton Chevy short bed about 40 miles. Who did you have delivering for you?

I used a guy south of Cisco/Eastland but just found out less than an hour ago 4hfeed in Breckenridge can deliver the same and they are closer!!


I should have asked you about who sells protein around the area knowing you are right around the corner. I never thought about checking more in Breckenridge.


A lot of you guys have blown me away with numbers I had no idea 1/2 tons could haul as much. Guess I never paid attention

Agree I need to get myself a trailer as it would make a lot easier.

Stove pellets, not deer food...but 2,000 pounds in the truck, another on the trailer.

I never really checked the door seal of a half ton!

I have a 3/4 ton F250 crew cab with an 8' bed. I have filled the back of the truck with corn taken right out of the field and dumped into my bed. The most I put in the bed was 3400 lbs. I drove 35 miles to the ranch to unload it into a bunch of 55 gallon barrels. Of coarse I only drove 55 miles per hour and took it "easy."

Be sure to inflate all your tires to their "max" load if your hauling extra heavy loads.

It is not how much can it hold, but how fast will it stop. Take it slow and easy...

I have my own auger trailer and buy mine in bulk. 4H is where I buy mine too.

I haven't hauled feed in my new truck but I did load a pallet of grass in it. I have a 16 f150 payload on it is around 1800#. Pallet of grass I estimate somewhere around 2500#. I did it with no issues, wasn't even on the overloads. I wouldn't recommend doing it all the time, only reason I did was I didn't have another option at the moment. My 3/4 ton chevy I had the max I ever had in it was around 2800#
