2 of this years 10 grizzly permits in Wyoming taken out by non-hunters. realmad
Afraid this will set a bad precedent. Really hope it doesn’t catch on. Don’t want the odds of my drawing a tag to become badly diluted by anti’s applying and then trashing them.

The fix for this is easy. If you draw a tag, you will be required to come to a 1 day (or more) seminar that describes the hunt and where you can hunt. Go into great detail about how to kill a bear and post kill responsibilities (gutting, skinning, meat care, etc.). Make sure there are lots of pictures.

If you don't show, or do not complete the seminar, your tag is forfeit and it goes to the next name on the list.

Make it a requirement to purchase a license for each state you put in for a drawn hunt and make it a requirement to show proof of hunters education before applying as well.

Interesting.
And show up with a gun or forfeit your spot to a stand by hunter.

Gun or bow but something to hunt with or loose your spot.

Lots of ways to fix that, some of which have been mentioned. Another is simply to increase tag allocation by whatever anticipated percentage of antis are predicted to apply.

That way you get antis $$$ for conservation effort funding with no impact on conservation goals. Win-win.

Hardly anything new. Patagonia sportswear started this trend back when states started issueing tags for buffalo migrating out of Yellowstone. Patagonia would give any one that drew the tag a refund not to use it. Thus a lot of anti’s started putting in

Catch 22 is really it does nothing unless they shoot a sow then it shuts down the entire hunt.

Ironically probably the first time that idiot has actually give a dollar that goes toward actual conservation

Most are that way already, but you really increase the cost for real hunters. With that said, when CO dropped thier upfront tag fee and went to more of a TX style draw, revenue via applications jumped

. Might take a couple years to figure out but I like this approach. If they get 20% of tags then just issue 20% more tags and put the extra $$ towards conservation up

Oversell with a quota system like some states do with wolves. State makes more money, people get that opportunity to hunt, better get on it and get one shot.

Re: New Anti-tactic. No Bueno. - 07/31/18 04:00 AM

No problem. They only have 10 days to film with their tag . The next hunter gets his or her chance and the sow quota was never in danger. Might mean more bears are actually harvested. We'll take their money and use it for wildlife management.
Betting next year the app fee will go up.

Re: New Anti-tactic. No Bueno. - 07/31/18 03:06 PM

I hope it does catch on. It would simply mean more money towards conservation. Modern hunting quotas are based upon population control goals. So if there are 'hunters' who purchase tags but don't ever use them then that is taken into account and calculated in the relative hunter success rates and the tags are the re-calculated for the next year to increase the number of tags sold in pursuit of the population control goals.

The more non-hunters purchasing tags the more tags that have to be sold the more money back to the parent agencies. Very simple concepts but demonstrates very poor logic on the 'antis' part....but does that really surprise anyone???

It seems to me this kind of stunt would ultimately be an end game, Sure the state likes the cash flow, but they only made the tags available because of numbers correct? If they need population control (since 10 tags arent really going to teeter the budget) seems they will respond in a way that does target the number reduction they want.

I say, verify the hunter, as a "hunter", then sell the activist a $600, 10 day camera only hunt after the season to further generate income. I also bet a non refundable application would curb a bunch of that as well. For 1o tags, let them put their money where their mouth is imo.

Just change the rules and allow for additional harvest the next year or a late season for unfilled tags. More money for the state and the same amount of animals harvested.

They already do put their money out there, kind of like the HSUSA, they almost have unlimited funding because the supporters keep on giving until it hurts.

The states can easily up the number of quota tags, the odds of drawing for hunters will for the most part will remain the same. In the end the states win with more money in the coffers.

The organized groups spend more on regulations and bad door voting.

Good listen

The anti’s can very well shut down atleast half the hunt, but would have to kill a sow.

The way the season to tag is allotted, this guy is just donating money, with that said he will probably make a pretty penny off the fame.

Yes sir, might as well make them pay too roflmao Cost me a grand to "hike" in Colorado grin

I like the idea above, sell tags until the states reduction quota is filled tho, if they want to take photos on their dime, fine!

Re: New Anti-tactic. No Bueno. - 08/01/18 03:14 AM

I see it going the way of money up front to apply next year.
They will sell tags until the quota is filled or the season is over.

Make all tag recipients watch a video that shows the benefit of controlled harvesting of over populated animals and the repercussions to that animal species and other animals if not kept in balance up

They did that very thing for bison hunters many years ago. We even had to pass shooting test before we could go out in the field to hunt them.
Wouldn't be a bad idea.

I like it Stub but there isn’t any reasoning with those types of people! Hell they would probably sue the state for emotional trauma after watching the video and probably bang win!!!!

Well the Core of Eng on Lake Grapevine instituted this ^^^ sort of this year and it is believed local homeowner associations around are spreading the word that this year they just can't fill out applications for the draw and if drawn taken the permits and dispose of them. Core did this thinking it would help and defray homeowners association residents from simply applying for draw permits with no intentions of hunting. I know people in some of those neighborhoods and they have spread the word to buy the cheap resident hunting license and if born for Sept 1971 don't have to have Hunters Education and thus can still apply for permits and if drawn show your hunting license and pick up the permit. awaiting to see results if my number is lucky this year.
