Navajo Spring Bear Hunt

Navajo Spring Bear Hunt - 05/17/18 01:33 PM

Steve and I are meeting up with some friends from Garden City and going to the Navajo Rez tomorrow. Steve and my buddy's son have bear tags so I will be helping with the video along with Carnivore's Calvin Redhouse. The weather looks like it is going to be pretty good, 40's in the mornings and 70's in the afternoons, the main thing is winds are not predicted for the next week. It will be dry but running a bear is similar to hogs, they give off a lot of stink.
We will be hunting with Calvin and Ty's dogs as I don't run bear with mine. Should be a great, fun hunt with lots of action as some of the really big bears do not like to climb. We will see a lot of beautiful country that very few folks will ever have the opportunity to see.
Adios,
Gary

Ty Hare’s dogs? Sounds like fun hunt. Wish there was more places to hunt spring bears

Garden City, Texas. Not Ty Hare's dogs, Ty Sandoval and CARNIVORE'S Calvin Redhouse. Both of these gents live in the Navajo Rez and have their own hounds.
We caught two bears in three mornings and could have caught another yesterday morning when we were trying to catch a lion that was feeding on a road killed bear. A bear moved in during the night and pushed the lion off the kill. We had the dogs fighting him on the ground.
I did not take my dogs which I run only on lions as we were concentrating on bears this trip. Calvin and Ty do catch lions when bears are hibernating or working off kills.
I don't post photos but will send to BowsnRods for him to post or go to CARNIVORE'S facebook page.
Adios,

What was crazy is the lion that got pushed off the bear carcass by another bear moved about a quarter mile away and killed 15 sheep that night. We could hear the sheep herder's dogs barking at us as we walked in to the bear kill. I am not sure why the dogs didn't run the lion off when he was killing the 15 sheep????
