Texas Hunting Forum
NRA Convention
As most of you know, the NRA Convention is going to be held in Dallas on May 4-6. Since this convention is being held in Texas, I pray that attendance is strong in light of the Dallas Mayor Carraway warning that the convention should be moved to another location after the demonstrations following the Florida school shooting. As you know, the NRA had absolutely nothing to do with the shooting in Florida or any other shooting that I am aware of. It has never been more important for defenders of the second amendment to stand strong and united. If it is at all possible, please make plans to attend this convention and let the liberals who want to take away our rights know that Texans cannot and will not be bullied.
Thanks and Adios,
Gary

Uhhh Caraway isn’t the Mayor of Dallas
I will be there.
My bad, Mayor Pro Tem Carraway. Glad to see some of you are planning to make it. If you have not attended this event, it is second only to the Shot Show when it comes to being able to see all the new firearms, ammo and other hunting and shooting products.
Adios,
Gary
I'll be there

I'll be there! GF was flying out for it but she has to work. I got our credentials in the mail (pre-registered) a few days ago. I'll be there, but flying solo this time around.
Here is my schedule for this weekend at the NRA Convention in Dallas. I will be in the Ruger Booth on Friday from 11-12 AM, Saturday at 4-5 PM and Sunday 10-11 AM. If you are planning to attend, PLEASE come by for a visit as I will be looking for friendly faces.
Thanks and Adios,
Gary

That's the Secret Service. Anywhere they are they want to have the only guns around. Can't say I blame them. And there's no guarantee everyone at the convention will be a good guy. It'd be pretty easy to join today and attend Friday. Just sayin'. Cheers.
I'm planning on going Sunday.
Us too.....Fishing trip Fri/Sat....NRA Sun....

You don’t have to be a member to get in, you just have to pay $20 at the door.

You DO have to be a member, but they are signing you up to join at the door.

Re: NRA Convention - 05/05/18 12:32 AM
I wish i could be there as the NRA is the essential supporter of our basic right to post on this site, to protect our families, to ensure that over zealous government agencies can never trample on our FREEDOMS. I for one find the NRA to be one of the most important organizations in our society regardless if they are not perfect. They are preventing the elimination of one of our most important rights and I am so grateful for their existence!!!!!
We spent a couple hours in the expo this morning. The only reason we went was to support the event and their numbers......I hate crowds....this one was worth it.
This was a great convention and everyone was extremely happy and upbeat. I was in the hall from 8 AM Friday until closing, 9 AM until closing on Saturday and 9:30 AM until 11:30 PM on Sunday. I did not see 15 protesters in the three days. The crowd on Saturday was HUGE, no way for me to estimate the numbers but the NRA was expecting 80,000 over the event.
Of all the shows that I have attended, the NRA Convention is consistently the best one. Great exhibits, extremely well organized and most of all the best folks in the world are walking the floors.
I believe the show will be held in Indianapolis next year and then back in Texas at Houston.
Thanks to all of you who came by Ruger and visited!
Adios,
Gary

Re: NRA Convention - 05/07/18 03:55 PM
I rode the red line train down to the convention and it was filled with other attendees (standing room only) and one obvious protester. He tucked away his sign so it couldn't be easily seen and he put on headphones to avoid talking to anyone. He was literally surrounded by attendees including an elderly life member who sat next to him. When he got off the train several of them called out "have a great day". Not sure if he noticed.
This was my first convention and it was a hoot. Loved seeing the booths for EMF, Pietta, Ruger, Cimarron, Dixie Gun Works, and Thompson/Center.
Great show and great time there.

Re: NRA Convention - 05/08/18 05:00 PM
Spent Sunday in the show. Very well laid out and lots of nice folks. Saw on the NRA FB page that over 87,000 attended - a new record for them. I did pick up my stickers to cover the logo of 'the cooler that doesn't support the 2A'.
